Back in the days, in japan, there was a man from medium class family. He was always had the inspiration to do something great that would make a difference. So he went to engineering school. He designed a prototype for piston rings. He went and presented it to Toyota as a superior design. Toyota rejected the prototype. He became a laugh of his colleagues, however he was inspired, he said ‘if they wish to laugh, let them laugh’. He made another design and this time they selected it. Toyota gave him an order and they extended him the capital to setup his factory for piston rings.
When he got his factory done, there was an earthquake and the factory collapsed. He said ‘never mind, will make it again’. The second time when he was about to make it, Japan entered into the second world war and cement became in short supply. Again he said, ‘never mind’. He found a new way to make cement and with the help of that he build his factory. However, by that time, America entered the war and they bombed his factory, as they were bombing Japan. His factory went down once again. Nevertheless he was still inspired. He was unstoppable.
In those days, planes were different. Once the fuel was used to lighten the plane, they would throw the gasoline tank. The grounds was full with all these gasoline tanks of the American bomber planes. He said ‘lets use these gasoline tanks to make the factory again’. He set up his factory for the 3rd time. By then Japan lost the war and fuel now was in short supply and people didn’t have the fuel to drive Toyota cars. His factory was ready but they were no orders for piston rings.
One day while he was riding his bicycle, suddenly he got a brain wave, he set a motor into the bicycle. It was the first motorcycle. When he drove around the neighbourhood, his friends look at it and said ‘can you do that for me as well?’ At some point he made around 20 motorcycles for the neighbourhood people and he thought that he has a marketable idea. He didn’t have the money to produce motorcycles, but his inspiration says ‘no difficulty is too big’.
He got a list of 8000 bicycles stockists of Japan and he hand wrote to 5000 of them. 1800 responded, extending a little, little bit of capital. With the help of that he set up his motorcycle factory. The first contraption he made, the first motorcycle was very big and it was a failure however he didn’t mind. He then made a smaller model, it was called the ‘Super Cub’ and it was an immediate success. After that there was no looking back. In his time his factory corporation employed 100,000 people worldwide and it has gone even beyond.
His name Soichiro Honda and he was the founder of the worldwide Honda automobile empire
If you are inspired , you will get difficulties, you will keep surmounting them. If you are not inspired , a little obstacle will seem like a mountain.
‘Success represents 1% of your work, which results from 99% of failure’-Soichiro Honda
